SS doctor during the war worked on the serum of cancer, but discovered a terrible poison, one vial is enough to kill 100 000 people. 20 years after the war, the old Nazi gets out of prison, and the hunt for him and his discovery begins.

During a mining accident, the police arrest the sole survivor on suspicion of murder, whose pickaxe is stained with the blood of one of the victims. The investigation reveals that the identity card found on the victim belongs to another person, that the collapse was deliberate and that the miner believed to be the victim has escaped.

Kis Katalin and Varga Jóska are getting married. During their honeymoon they are preparing plans for the future. The film takes place in Russia during the World War I. Three Hungarian POWs are on the run from their Russian captives. One of them gets shot down. Lieutenant Balogh and Miska, his servant, are brought before Szergej Dragow. The Russian offers to take them on to serve him. Balogh says yes, only to attempt to escape later.

Dr. Kálmán Bajor, a lawyer in his fifties, falls in love with his friend's secretary, twenty-year-old Turkish Vali. Valit seduces his young suitor and asks her to marry him. The lawyer's daughter Mimi does not look kindly on the marriage, but she cannot dissuade her father. So she solves the matter with a woman's logic. Apparently in love with her father's friend, she gets engaged to Uncle Árpád, also over fifty. But the game turns serious, and Uncle Árpád really falls in love with the pretty girl.

Two girls run away from a small village. Gyöngyi comes from an aristocratic family and her father throws her out of the house when he discovers she has gotten pregnant out of wedlock. She finds herself wandering the streets of Budapest and earns money playing the violin in a restaurant. Vica is an orphaned peasant; she is afraid of her stepfather and moves to the city where she gets a job on a construction site. Gyöngyi and Vica meet on the streets of Budapest, move in together and turn their lives around.

Count Vághelyi Gusztáv is now a member of the Carthusan order. He has to be there at her ex-sweetheart's, Betti's deathbed. Longing for penitence, he recalls his life so far.
