A young man living in Toronto sends several friends to stay with his family in India. His traditional Bengali parents in Calcutta receive the visitors with all due respect because they think one of the guests carries a special message. Old world tradition gets turned on its head as the family adapts to their guests' new world value

Muqaam is inspired by the daily news stories of love and betrayal which we come across in the society. The society has almost become insensitive towards these issues because of the sheer frequency and the feeling of a false sense of security that it is not going to happen to them or their dear ones. The story revolves around the key characters- Disha, Tahir, Chandu, Zoya and Salim, etc. Disha is a small town, next-door girl. She is an orphan raised by her grandfather. Her grandfather wants to see her happily married to a good guy before he retires but Disha has plans of her own. She is in love with Tahir and is ready to take any measure for getting married to him.

Several interested parties go in search of a sleep-generating machine which was made 150 years ago by a scientist. However, a little boy is named the scientist's heir and becomes his legacy.
