A mystery around a search for a lost skull of Nikolay Gogol.

The story is set during the World War II. Seven prisoners manage to escape from the penitentiary and hide in a small village forsaken of God and men. Soon after they respire, they face a new hardship - a German subversive group appears near the village. And as the fate decree, the former 'enemies' of the Motherland turn into its fierce defenders. War mutilates lives of millions of people, but sometimes it is the war that makes even the most thorough scoundrel in the world to remember that he is also a MAN.

The people's favorite, the country's best football player Fyodor Cherenkov, is not going through the best period in his life. The only thing that keeps him from despair is his dream of playing at the World Cup. But the head coach of the national team removes him from the team at the last moment. Based on the account by Vasiliy Koroteev this is the story of Panifilov's Twenty-Eight, a group of twenty-eight Red Army soldiers commanded by General Ivan Panfilov, that stopped the advance on Moscow of a column of fifty-four Nazi tanks of the 11th Panzer Division for several days. Though lightly armed they fight tirelessly and defiantly, with uncommon bravery and unwavering dedication, to protect Moscow and their Motherland.
