A love triangle, the story revolves around two brothers (Ajit and Sajjan), both in love with an orphan girl (Madhubala), who is given shelter by their family.

Brash, outspoken, and aethiest Shanker lives in a small village with his son, Mohan, and his devout wife, Durga, who is expecting another child soon. One day Shanker decides to leave and takes Mohan with him, leaving a pregnant Durga alone. Years go by, both Mohan and Ajay have grown up. Ajay operates a publicatin called Karmayogi, in which he publishes news and information about crime and criminals, and does an expose on Keshavlal. Mohan and Shanker want a bigger stake in the share, which Keshav agrees to, but arranges for Shanker to get killed, and blames it on Ajay. When Shanker is killed, Mohan swears to avenge his father's death and begins the trek of locating and killing Ajay.

Ajit Singh is a leader of gang of bandits. He has his younger brother, Ranjeet, also in the gang. Ranjeet meets with a beautiful young woman named Aasha, and decides he does not want to be a bandit anymore, and much to the anger of Ajit and his henchman, Sarju, re-locates to the city, in order to live a peaceful life. But Ranjeet is arrested and held in prison. Then Sarju and Ajit come to the city and kidnap Aasha, as they know that Ranjeet will come back to rescue her. Ranjeet seeks the co-operation of the police, but they will only help him conditionally.

Ram and Balram are 2 young boys who live with their loving parents. Their scheming uncle, Jagatpal, however kills the boy's father and mother. Jagatpal lies to the boys that their parents have been killed in an accident and promises to raise them himself. He enrolls the younger brother Balram, in school and eventually sends him off to join the police force. The older becomes a mechanic. Jagatpal has a tight hold on the boys, even when Ram is an adult, he still gives all his wages to his uncle and is only allowed to keep a few rupees for pocket money.

A tough and honest police officer clashes with a crime boss who, unbeknownst to him, happens to be his parents' murderer.
