Fifty-six-year-old Perianayaki contends with the difficulties of fitting into her new home, especially at the local supermarket where she works. Eye-opening and brimming with compassion, the latest film from director Bala Murali Shingade is a slice-of-life character study that provokes questions about multiculturalism and our assumptions about the people we encounter in daily life.

Working at the local swimming pool, Jeremiah is rejected by his co-worker crush. Unable to take rejection, Jeremiah’s deluded mind influences the visual genre tropes of film, from rom-com to psycho-drama to slasher-horror, as his ego leads us on a darkly comical journey.

Jeremiah is lonely in the world of love. When his work mate rejects him, he can ’t handle it and begins to crumble into dark, comedic capitulation. Adding fuel to the fire is his alpha workmate, Johnson, an ice cream eating lady, three troublemakers and a sage old little kid. Centred around a dastardly love triangle, the film is about the demise of a lonely, misguided young man. Treated with comedy, it hopes to bring the audience in, so we can assess these traits in ourselves with some humility, and look with a fresh perspective at a prevalent, and often fatal (consider the recent rise and effects of incel culture) problem in our society.
